Cooper hosts the breakfast show: he's up while the town is still asleep. A koala keeping a baker's hours has its charm, because koalas spend almost the whole day sleeping. Him, at that hour, he's already awake, mug in front of him.

In his story, Cooper does the breakfast slot at a community station in Wauchope, out in the Hastings Valley. Six to nine, free, for the love of it. And the first thing, always, is the coffee: black, near-boiling, from the beans he buys on Bago Road, because he doesn't trust the other stuff.
That stretch in the dark, with the town still asleep, is one of the parts of the day he guards most. And even if you don't do radio, you've probably got your own version: the first coffee before anything begins. If you'd rather have it on the wall, the same portrait comes as a poster.
